Technically speaking, a heat pump is a mechanical-compression cycle refrigeration system that can be reversed to either heat or cool a space. The most common type of heat pump configuration is what is called a “Mini Split”. This simply means your home heating system will have components on both the inside and outside of your home. The heat pump unit itself will sit outside your home, similar to a central air conditioning unit. Inside your home you’ll find the wall mounted units that will blow your warm or cool air around your home. Mini split heat pumps systems can be installed in new construction, or existing home can be retrofitted to accept this system.
Think of a heat pump as a heat transporter, constantly moving warm air from one place to another, to where it is needed, or to where it is not needed, depending on the season and outside conditions. Heat energy is found everywhere, even in cold air. When it’s cold outside, a heat pump extracts this outside heat and transfers it inside. When it’s warm outside, it reverses directions and acts like an air conditioner, removing the heat from your home and transferring it outside. An advantage of a heat pump is that heat pumps transfer heat, as opposed to generating heat, which offers better energy efficiency. Another advantage of heat pumps is they are powered by electricity, so the need for fuel consumption is eliminated. Heat pumps systems are often used along with a supplemental heating source in our cold climate, and can offer a significant drop in your home heating bill.

They were able to show us in 15 minutes what other people weren’t able to do at all. The next day I called Bill to set up the installation of a new sewage lift system and now within a week of being installed it is working perfectly. The only reason for delay of a week was due to 100+km winds and our excavating team not able to dig up our sewer line.
